What Is It?
Sociology, by definition is "A social science involving the study of the social lives of people, groups, and societies. It is also the study of our behavior as social beings, covering everything from the analysis of short contacts between anonymous individuals on the street to the study of global social processes. Additionally, it is the scientific study of social aggregations, the entities through which humans move throughout their lives, and an overarching unification of all studies of humankind, including history, psychology, and economics." as stated by the American Sociological Association. Why Is It Important?
The practice and application of sociological learning is important because it seeks the unification of social history, interactions, economics and thought systems in order to create lasting foundations and institutions upon which a society can benefit from in communal or global forms. Sociology is a practice that enables the commonalities and differences of cultures and ways of life to interact and benefit from one another on differentiating levels.
Who Does It Benefit?
The study and practice of sociology itself is beneficial for everyone. Since it is a subcategory of the humanities, it is only logical that its application has effects on myriads. Sociology is used to study current social, economical and cultural movements, and to gauge their effects on individuals, communities and institutions. It is an ever-adapting practice that seeks to understand the social aspects of life - how they affect others on macro and micro scales, and how the world, in turn affects them.
How Is Writing Used In The Field?
Sociology, by nature, is all about communications. The study of them, the usage of them and how the communications interact and work within a society. Naturally, writing is a common form of communicational media that is used within the practice. Letters can be written out to persuade change, emails keep the world within reach at the tap of the fingers, and the study of sociological literature can give in-depth views of a society. Writing is an incredibly useful tool in the field, and it is something that will always be implemented.
